Holiday Card Signing

SIMI VALLEY, CA. The holiday season is once again upon us. Most of us will spend the holidays at home, surrounded by the ones we love. There is a large group of citizens, however, who don’t have that luxury. Citizens who willingly sacrifice time with their families so you will have the freedom to enjoy time with yours; thousands of United States military personnel deployed to remote and austere locations, ships and subs all over the world.
There are several ways that we, safe in our homes, can help make the holidays a little brighter for those who give us our freedom.
For The Troops is offering the public an opportunity to send holiday greeting to a deployed American Freedom Fighter. The cards will be, sorted and distributed in “We Care” packages filled with goodies and items from the Troops “Wish List” to our military serving overseas.
On Saturday, November 19th, 2011 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., For The Troops will host a holiday card signing event at 2878 Cochran St. in the Sycamore Village Center, Simi Valley, CA 93065. Children and adults are welcome and encouraged toome by and sign cards to be sent to our Troops with love and encouragement. “There is always request from the Troops for letters from children so we are always hoping for schools and organizations for help in sending letters and Christmas cards from the kids.” Paula Cornell, co founder of For The Troops adds. In turn, letters and emails of thanks from the Troops have been received and the letters of gratitude are overwhelming.
Any donations of holiday greeting cards will gladly be accepted. Tables will be set up for individuals and groups.
With the next shipment, hopefully reaching the goal of the 50,000th “We Care” packages from For The Troops, monetary donations are being sought for the shipping expense.
Monthly fundraisers are planned at different restaurants willing to donate a portion back to help defray the shipping costs of the Care Packages. Donated items are collected at these “nights out”. “This is a “win win” situation for our restaurants and for our Troops” states Cornell. The next scheduled fundraiser event is at THE ROCK AND ROLL CAFE (2190 Tapo Street, Simi Valley) Tuesday and Wednesday, November 29 & 30th from 10:30 am to 8:00pm. With a flyer, which can be found on the FTT Facebook Page or website www.forthetroops.org , the Rock and Roll Cafe is donating 20% of its proceeds to FOR THE TROOPS.
Donations also can be made online at www.ForTheTroops.org or by mail to For The Troops, P.O. Box 630103, Simi Valley, CA 93063. For The Troops is headquartered at 2872 Cochran St. Simi Valley, CA 93065. To donate items or request a We Care package, email USA@ForTheTroops.org or call (805) 306-0830.
