SIMI VALLEY, CA… The community of Simi Valley is planning to spend a day giving thanks to our American Heroes on November 8th, 2009 at the Simi Valley Town Center from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
A kick off to the day’s events will be Blaine Dickey singing the National Anthem. Andrews International has donated $5,000.00 to CheerForce All Star Cheerleading, and they will be hitting the local Wal-Mart shopping for items to send in care packages to our troops and donating it all to For The Troops®, an organization “Supporting Our Troops One Care Package At A Time”. For The Troops will be holding an active collection drive during the event asking the community to please stop by and bring needed items to make the “We Care” boxes to send to our troops in Afghanistan and Iraq. Monetary donations are also needed to ship out the packages. Items needed are listed on their website on the troops wish list, such as socks, jerky, candy, baby wipes, batteries, music, books, DVD’s, small hand held games, pens, writing paper, neck cooler ties, crystal light flavor packets, toilet paper and more.
Activities for the day include CheerForce All Star Cheerleading demonstrations, live musical entertainment, booths where the community can stop and sign Christmas cards and write notes to our troops to be sent in the “We Care “ packages from Simi Valley, and a VERY SPECIAL surprise celebrity guest confirmed to sign autographs and meet everyone.
There will be representations from the different branches of the Military, Marine Corps League, Simi Valley Police Department Canine Unit, (donating $500.00 to show their support), Los Angeles Police Department with black and white, LAPD Explorers, Military Families of Ventura County, For The Troops and a Jolly Jump for the kids.
Everyone is encouraged to attend, and show support. All Veterans and currently serving military personnel are asked to come in uniform or wear some identification of your tour of service.
